What Is Professional Coaching? Simply put... I'll ask you where you want to go, and then help you stay focused on getting there. It really is almost that simple, but the impact is profound. Here's a more detailed description:
Balance: Often, despite knowing what we want, we find it difficult to manage our to-do list. We say YES to the things that intrigue us, only to discover that we’ve unwittingly said NO to other critical elements of a balanced life. Perhaps, we say yes to responsibilities at work, and then find that we have too little time for family and friends, or for personal time to reflect, decompress and rejuvenate Acceptance & Appreciation: And sometimes, life throws us a curve ball. At other times, we hit a string of home runs. Either way, people often move on too fast, failing to stop and fully accept or appreciate what just happened. We either avoid difficult truths, or we miss important opportunities to celebrate our accomplishments. In coaching, clients develop their capacity to accept and appreciate all of life's ups and downs, which ultimately leads toward a deeper sense of fulfillment and success. The Coaching Process: Coaches are trained to stay fully present, to ask clarifying questions, and to be curious about what lies beneath the surface. We encourage our clients to take risks, to dare to say what they want, and then help move them ever closer to fulfilling those desires. In other words, coaching is results oriented, and those results are measurable. Through continual check-ins and more formal assessments, clients can reflect upon their own progress, and continually re-evaluate the coaching relationship according to their own standards of success and return on investment. In fact, perhaps the most important differentiator between coaching and counseling is the focus on action. Rather than becoming mired in the discovery and understanding of the past, coaches help clients to develop specific action plans designed to move them forward, and then hold them accountable for achieving results. In this way, it’s often stated that 95% of coaching happens between sessions. No coach, no matter how skilled, can do it alone. Coaching clients learn quickly that their progress is their own to achieve, and can take full credit for their successes along the way, whatever success means to them.
