What Is Team Coaching?

In the context of sports, we all understand that winning is a result of having aligned objectives, shared values, hours of practice on the field, and a seasoned coach.  So why is it so common in business for teams to be expected to produce high-quality results without similar investments?

People are people.  No matter how skilled team members are in their individual areas of expertise, without sufficient training and "practice" as a team, it's just not reasonable to expect them to collaborate effectively.

Skyward helps business teams and their leaders achieve and maintain peak performance through collaboration and communication training, facilitation and coaching.  Assessment tools are used to evaluate how well team members understand and are aligned with the current business and team objectives, and to assess strengths and weaknesses among individual team members.  Training workshops are then customized to address the overall needs of the team, focusing on techniques for effective communication and collaboration.  Individual coaching is often useful for addressing specific individual needs, as well as to lock in the learning from training workshops.

Training Workshops:  Although our workshops are designed to meet the specific needs of your team, here's a list of popular workshops for business teams:

  • Introduction to the Collaborative Operating System™*
Most people who work in groups will agree that teamwork and productivity are enhanced through effective collaboration.  But too often, team members are unclear about what it takes to collaborate effectively.  And even among those who are clear, definitions of collaboration often vary.  In this training, the objective is to develop a common language for collaborating.  Together, we define the principles and practices that lead to effective collaboration within and among teams and organizations.
  • Fundamentals of the Collaborative Operating System
In this training, we go more deeply into the practice of collaboration.  Having a common and agreed upon language is a necessary first step, but it's often not sufficient in order to create meaningful and sustainable organizational change.
  • Running Collaborative Meetings
Most everyone has experience participating in meetings that simply fail to generate positive and substantive results.  For some, that experience has been repeated so many times that they avoid meetings all together.  This training offers clear and concrete guides for transforming the meeting experience into a predictably positive and results-generating activity.
  • Developing Tools for Crucial Conversations.  Based upon the work of Kerry Patterson, et. al., this training introduces tools for effective communication, specifically designed for situations where the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong.
